Selkirk-based master glass artisan Michael Hunter of Twists Glass Studio has been awarded recognition this year with an award for excellence from the British Craft Trade Fair. The judges’ criteria were based on design, innovation and creativity. The award was sponsored and judged by Bluefin who specialize in designer/maker insurance. They have sponsored the BCTF Award for Excellence for the past decade. . Michael who founded Twists Glass Studio in Selkirk in 1998 on the Riverside Industrial Estate in Selkirk is no newcomer to award success and this is already the second accolade for excellence he has received this year.
His work is included in private and public collections including Paxton House, part of the The National Gallery, Edinburgh., Nazeing Glass Museum in Hertfordshire and only last month an example of his work was requested by the Bergstrom Mahler Museum in Wisconsin, USA for their public collection marking the first international museum to own his work.
His recognition as an international glass artist is currently at the forefront of his career He has been published several times in the USA with recognition as the first British contemporary designer to be honoured with a photograph of his work appearing on the front cover of the internationally-famous Collectors Bulletin in the USA.
Michael has also given demonstrations and presentations at The Creative Glass Centre of America showing off his unique glass-making techniques to curators, artists and collectors in the USA.
His work will be displayed in The Twists Glass Studio at Weavers Court, Selkirk during the Crossing Borders Art Trail in September.
