In today's shrinking world, and difficult trading conditions, we are encouraged to consider some form of collaboration with an overseas partner and, for many UK companies Joint Ventures or Licensing arrangements have been very successful, often providing a much needed life line for their business.

The December meeting of the Scottish Borders Export Club will explore the wide variety of collaborations to be considered, the assistance available, and the legal implications.

Our first speaker, Norman Trotter, comes with a well earned reputation as an engaging and knowledgeable speaker. He was Founder and Chief Executive of the Licensing Centre, and is an acknowledged expert on our subject. He is involved in a wide range of activities and lectures widely on all aspects of licensing, commercialisation, negotiation, and technology transfer. Don't miss this opportunity to hear Norman expound on the value of collaboration.

Our second speaker is Ian Murray from the Innovation Relay Centre for Scotland. Ian and his colleagues work with companies from all industries and IRC's services include; providing access to a vast range of potential partners in Europe. make technology assessments, access to European funding for R&D and, promoting your innovations in European markets.

Finally, to address the legal implications of Joint Ventures and protection of our intellectual property rights we welcome Gillian Cameron, a Partner in the IP & Technology Department at Maclay Murray & Spens. Involved generally in intellectual property issues and contracts and accredited as a specialist in IP by the Law Society of Scotland, Gillian is an IT and Internet lawyer advising a wide range of clients involved in e-business and IT, and is an honorary lecturer with the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at Strathclyde University.

All Scottish Borders Export Club events are open to anyone with an interest in Exporting be they members or not, manufacturers, designers, or service providers. Everyone is welcome.
