Twists Glass Studio win Kellogg's scholarship in USA Scottish Borders Export Club member Sue Hunter from Selkirk based Twists Glass Studio has been awarded a Scholarship to the world famous Kellogg's Business School of Management in Chicago, USA. The Executive Marketing programme will also offer Sue the opportunity and experience of a work placement at the Chicago Institute of Art where she can observe the marketing process in action.
Twists Glass Studio produces some of the finest handfinished drinking glasses made today, using methods dating back to the 18th century. First established in 1998 Twists Glass has carved out a niche in the market by reintroducing air twists and coloured cane twist stems using near lost techniques. Hand finishing at the furnace gives the glass three distinctive qualities not found in today's mass produced machine finished drinking vessels.
The Kellogg's scholarship offers a unique opportunity to learn about brand building and marketing in the US, where Twists Glass Studio aim to introduce their works of art and collectable paperweights this summer.
Another exciting opportunity beckons for Twist Glass this year. Sue's husband Michael Hunter, Designer Maker, has been invited to make a presentation on the making of his unique murrine canes at the Paperweight Festival 2006 which will be held at Wheaton Glass Village, Millville, New Jersey.
